Cotton-top tamarin is among the animals visitors can meet at UK wildlife attractions.
A type of Tamarin.
The cotton-top tamarin is a small, playful primate native to the tropical forests of Colombia. These adorable monkeys are easily recognised by their distinctive white "cotton-top" hair and tiny size, weighing around 0.5 kg. Cotton-top tamarins primarily eat insects, fruits, and small vertebrates, using their agile hands to forage among the trees. Although their conservation status has not yet been formally evaluated, habitat loss and illegal pet trade pose significant threats to their populations. Interestingly, cotton-top tamarins are known for their complex vocalisations, which they use to communicate with one another in the dense foliage of their homes. UK families can observe these enchanting creatures at various zoos and wildlife parks, where they contribute to important conservation and education efforts.
